The FIU Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum: Admission, Location, Parking, and Hours

One of the great things about the Frost Art Museum is that admission is always free! If you’re looking for free things to do in the Miami area, you’ll want to check out some of the FIU museums.

Where is the Frost Museum?

10975 SW 17th Street on the Modesto A. Maidique campus of Florida International University.

Where should you park?

There are parking spots in the Gold or Blue Garages as well as in Lot 4. There isn’t any free parking but you can either use the meters in the garages or use the Pay by Phone app.

If you are entering the Miami Frost Museum from the 107 Avenue entrance, you will want to go straight through the roundabout. Then you will see the Blue garage on the left and the Gold garage on the right. The museum is next to the Blue garage.

The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday. Hours are between 11 am and 5 pm. Keep in mind they are closed on Mondays.

Frost also has a science museum and planetarium. Considered one of the best science museums in Florida, the Frost Museum of Science is also worth a visit. However, these two museums are situated about fifteen miles apart.

There are three collections within the Frost Art Museum’s Permanent Collection.

The General Collection

The Betty Laird Perry Emerging Artist Collection is artwork produced by students graduating from the University’s art program. Many of these students received national and international acclaim as artists.

The Metropolitan Museum and Art Center Collection has more than 2,300 pieces. These were donated to the Frost Art Museum after the Metropolitan Museum and Art Center closed. Here you can find artworks by major 20th-century figures. Ancient bronzes from African and Asian cultures. An extensive collection of 1960s American prints, and more.

The General Collection is ever-expanding. The collection is now largely comprised of American printmaking from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Also Pre-Columbian works from between 200 and 500 A.D. There are many pieces by contemporary Latin American and Caribbean artists.

With nearly 6,000 objects in total, there is no shortage of art to explore at the Frost Museum of Art in Miami!

Exhibitions and Events

The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum also displays rotating exhibitions. These typically run for just a few weeks to several months.

One of the exhibits running now is a display of Bob Dylan’s artwork. Titled Retrospectrum: Bob Dylan.

Miami’s Frost Art Museum is always working to build its collection. They also benefit from their relationship with the Smithsonian Institution. The Frost Art Museum is located on FIU’s Avenue of the Arts. This is the focal point of their public art program.
